Head of Regional Supply Chain

Hybrid Role, requiring 2-3 days/week onsite in San Rafael, CA – Headquarters Reporting to the VP Global Supply Chain, you will manage BioMarin’s Commercial Supply Chain in the International Region. This region encompasses 76 markets in 6 sub-regions worldwide and you will be accountable for the Commercial Supply Chain globally in support of the International Region. You will be a strategic business partner to Lead Teams driving customer service and performance, maximizing value to internal and external customers while executing in accordance with the International Region’s priorities. You will help set up and scale the Commercial Supply Chain structure in line with company expansion and portfolio needs. The ideal candidate combines business and supply chain expertise with strong communications skills and works collaboratively in a cross-functional environment to influence across BioMarin’s ecosystem. Primary Responsibilities Lead the Regional Supply Chain Team, coaching and developing team members to achieve supply chain, quality, legal/compliance and business objectives. Represent Global Supply Chain in the International Commercial Leadership Team. Set up, scale and drive the Commercial Supply Chain function globally to support the Commercial Strategy. Ensure efficient and effective supply of commercial products, leading regional and country execution of activities such as customer service, order management and fulfillment, demand, new product introduction and in-country distribution. This includes handling complex tender orders and ensuring compliance with local tender conditions and regulatory requirements. Act as the escalation point of contact for customers in the region to resolve daily supply issues. Coordinate launches for the region with the Product Launch team to ensure product readiness against commercial objectives. Challenge organizational performance and implement improvements in performance. Engage as a strategic business partner with Commercial leaders to resolve strategic demand/supply issues and assess tradeoffs. Act as a spokesperson and consultant on Supply Chain topics, establishing strong relationships to align objectives and results. Lead Regional Demand Planning, translating forecasts into concise inputs for the GSC organization and driving forecast improvements and trend analyses. Develop and validate long-range planning and forecasting models for budget and production needs. Engage with stakeholders to ensure supply chain capabilities are considered in strategy development. Monitor regulatory, reimbursement, and customer requirements and stay informed on market activity. Support in-country commercial business development initiatives with TOPS partners. Ensure supply chain requirements are communicated to customers and distribution partners and met; manage distributor selection and ongoing compliance audits with adjacent functions. Maintain operational and budgetary oversight of supply chain activities, including last-mile distribution and performance metrics to meet revenue targets. Participate in global S&OP processes and deploy/execute International Region S&OP and Country S&OP processes for related markets. Ensure customer service levels and performance dashboards meet or exceed targets across the Region. Oversee regional inventory at BioMarin storage locations and distributors, optimize stock levels and costs. Ensure staff training in the Commercial Supply Chain organization is up to date. Champion continuous improvement and innovation; ensure GMP/GDP compliance across regional/country operations. Qualifications BS/BA in Supply Chain, Science or Economics/Finance with 15 years of experience. Excellent understanding of the Pharma industry and in-country supply chain needs; orphan drugs experience a plus. 10+ years’ supply chain management experience within Pharma or Lifesciences manufacturing. Ability to set up mission/vision/strategy for Commercial Supply Chain and translate into key drivers. Ability to attract and recruit top talent and develop others; strong leadership and delegation skills. Strong knowledge of international markets and regulatory considerations for continuous distribution of medicines. APICS/ASCM CPIM and CSCP accreditations preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills; cross-functional collaboration. Professional proficiency in other languages in the Region is a plus (Portuguese, Spanish, French, etc.). Intercultural experience and ability to operate in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment. Proven ability to lead across boundaries and build relationships with colleagues. Customer- and business-focused with a track record of delivering results. Experience with SAP MM, SD and PP modules preferred. Experience in cold chain storage or temperature-controlled logistics required. Knowledge of international trade compliance (Customs, FTAs, HTS, Import/Export processes). Experience implementing serialization and jurisdictional controls to ensure compliant supply to markets. Understanding of Market Access matters (National Formularies, Pricing, Tenders) a plus. Experience partnering with Global Security to reduce risks in IP, facilities, and distribution security. Experience with 3PLs, carriers and customs brokers required. Travel This position requires some travel to external partners and BioMarin offices in San Rafael, CA.
