ASC Overview
The Ambulatory Surgery Center at GW Hospital offers outpatient surgical care in ENT, general surgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedics. The PACU/Pre-Op team ensures patients are safely prepared for and recover from anesthesia and procedures in a fast-paced, patient-focused setting.
Position Summary
This role provides pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing same-day surgical procedures. The RN rotates between Pre-Op and PACU areas, ensuring safety, readiness, and comfort for patients before and after surgery.
Main Tasks
Perform pre-operative assessments, start IVs, and administer medications
Educate and prepare patients and families for surgical procedures
Monitor vital signs and recovery from anesthesia in the PACU
Manage pain, nausea, and discharge planning
Collaborate with surgical teams and anesthesia providers
Document care accurately and promptly in the EHR
Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient care environment

Qualifications
Required:
RN license in DC (or eligibility)
BLS and ACLS (AHA)
1 year of experience in PACU, Pre-Op, ICU, or ED
Preferred:
BSN or enrolled in BSN program
CPAN, CAPA, or other perioperative certification
Experience in outpatient surgical care or ASC environment
