RN Clinical - 4FL ICU - Full Time 12 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union) – Keck Medicine of USC, Hospital, Los Angeles, California. As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The RN is accountable for the coordination of patient care and education to the patient and family in accordance with the standards, policies, and practices in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Responsibilities

Follows policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals. Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the Nursing Process. ASSESSMENT: Completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift and with change of condition. Completes patient acuity by 0200/1400 daily. DIAGNOSIS: Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses. PLAN: Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions. Documents expected/projected patient outcomes. Reviews/revises/updates Plans of Care daily based on evaluation of patient outcomes. INTERVENTION: Administers medication and IV therapy appropriately at prescribed intervals. Completes patient care procedures correctly per policy at prescribed intervals. Delegates tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency. Acts as patient advocate. Manages restraint use per policy; attempts alternative non-restraint measures first. Ensures MD orders and assessments per policy; ensures patient monitoring per policy. Completes Restraint Audit Form each shift. DOCUMENTATION: Ensures complete and correct documentation on all flow sheets and chart forms and completes required checks and transfers. EDUCATION: Provides patient/family education as needed. Performs room/unit orientation and identifies knowledge deficits related to diagnoses and care. Utilizes MICROMEDEX information for patients and families. TRANSFER & DISCHARGE: Collaborates with Case Manager and/or physician regarding discharge planning. Completes transfer paperwork and ensures belongings are sent with the patient. EQUIPMENT: Uses patient care equipment safely per manufacturer guidelines (e.g., IV pump, feeding pump, PCA pump, Epidural pump, SCDs, Wound VAC, heating devices). COMMUNICATION: Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, patient, and family. Includes shift-to-shift reports, rounds, hand-offs, and related communications. ORGANIZATION: Manages time effectively; prioritizes responsibilities; takes meals breaks without overtime; completes shifts on time. REGULATORY AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Adheres to safety and quality standards (e.g., National Patient Safety Goals, patient identifiers, universal protocols, medication reconciliation, HIPAA, OSHA, JCAHO readiness, etc.). CARE OF MEDICAL SURGICAL PATIENTS (6N): Manages patients with THA, TKA, spinal surgery, isolation precautions, hepatic encephalopathy, and organ transplants as applicable. CARE OF ICU/STEP-DOWN PATIENTS: Manages complex critically ill patients with advanced therapeutic modalities and monitoring (e.g., hemodynamic monitoring, CRRT, ventilators, invasive lines, assist devices). DIFFICULT AREAS: Manages high-acuity patients requiring specialized monitoring and care, including post-transplant patients and those with specialized devices. DIABETES/RENAL CARE: Initiates and manages dialysis treatments per policy; completes documentation; coordinates with physicians for orders. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH: Engages patients therapeutically, maintains therapeutic milieu, and follows safety procedures (contraband checks, treatment planning, and required reporting). BEHAVIORAL RESTRAINTS: Applies de-escalation techniques; applies restraints when appropriate with physician orders and monitoring per policy. QUALITY MEASURES: Identifies Core Measure criteria, documents, and participates in data collection and process improvements. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participates in professional activities, committees, unit projects, and related activities. BSN degree in Nursing (may be grandfathered for hires prior to 12/2019). 1 year acute inpatient hospital experience in the United States. Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading, and writing). Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to perform duties including whole blood collection and apheresis per policies. Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Preferred Qualifications

Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or other specialty certifications. Required Licenses/Certifications

Registered Nurse (CA Board of Registered Nursing). Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); obtained within 30 days of hire and renewed as required (LA City only). Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association. ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy oncology units certification required within six months of hire. The hourly rate range for this position is $44.00 - $95.00.
