Overview
The Director of Nursing assists with the planning, coordination, leading, controlling and evaluation of home health services. S/he is responsible for coordination and liaison with appropriate parent and affiliate departments and committees; implementation of policies and guidelines for, and obtaining input from, service personnel in addition to providing professional input to related administrative systems. S/he directs and supervises professional and paraprofessional personnel rendering client care services, fosters public relations for the company by consulting and planning with health care facilities regarding staffing needs, and communicates the concept of quality client care to the general community. S/he interprets service needs to the DOS and/or administrator and acts as a client services administrative liaison. Responsibilities
Serves as the Supervising Nurse of the home health department and assesses appropriate staff supervision during all service hours. Represents the Agency/Department in audits of regulatory agencies. Oversees the implementation and evaluation of client care services inclusive of regulatory licensure and certification criteria and accreditation standards. Supervises and manages the clinical operations of the home health and remains available during operating hours; provides clinical support after hours and weekends or ensures qualified alternates in writing. Consults, plans and works with the DOS/administrator in process formulation and implementation, including staffing assessments. Coordinates with other program areas and senior management per organizational structure. Directs the implementation of service goals and objectives and directs staff in their duties. Keeps home health personnel up to date with clinical information through staff development, new hire orientation, annual in-service education, and continuing education. Ensures adherence to federal, state, and accreditation regulations and company policies. Develops referral sources and maintains relationships with medical and health communities. Ensures safe and effective services, including appropriate admission and reassessment of patients when criteria are met. Oversees physician orders, lab result communication to physicians and care team, and OASIS assessment review for accuracy and reimbursement. Manages documentation systems to support medical necessity and homebound status. Plans and evaluates programs to meet community needs; conducts staff development and performance evaluations. Maintains EMR-based scheduling, budgeting for supplies, and performance reporting to improve agency operations. Oversees QAPI program and corrective action plans; participates in professional advisory activities and community outreach. Participates in on-call duties as defined by policy and DOS guidance; prepares and reviews payer claims. Performs other duties as assigned by the DOS/Administrator. Education, Experience & Job Requirements
Current and valid Registered Nursing license in the state(s) practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred but not required. Experience in home health and/or hospice with training in health service administration. Preferred: at least one year of supervisory or administrative experience in home health care and personnel management. Current CPR Certification. Proven skills in business and financial management preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to read and interpret legal information. Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to questions from employees, managers and outside entities. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and work with diverse teams. Must understand and comply with all company policies and procedures. Proficiency in office software and equipment. Spanish language skills preferred.
