Our client is seeking an experienced
Reinsurance Counsel
to join our in-house legal team, with a focus on
property & casualty (P&C)
insurance. This role is critical to managing a growing volume of complex agreements involving reinsurance components, including MGA contracts, third-party administrator agreements, and agency binding authority agreements. The ideal candidate will bring
substantial in-house experience
from an insurance carrier, with a deep understanding of contract structures and reinsurance provisions. This is a mid-level to senior role for someone who can
hit the ground running
without the need for extensive training. Key Responsibilities
Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including MGA contracts, TPA contracts, and agency binding authority agreements. Ensure all agreements appropriately address
reinsurance provisions . Maintain and manage a comprehensive contract inventory. Provide legal advice and support on reinsurance matters to internal stakeholders. Collaborate with underwriting, claims, compliance, and other departments to align on contract language and risk management. Support the senior attorney and broader legal team in regulatory and operational matters as needed. Qualifications
JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 5–10 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong preference for in-house counsel experience at a property & casualty carrier. Deep familiarity with contracts involving reinsurance terms and insurance distribution channels. Ability to independently manage and prioritize a high volume of contracts. Strong business acumen and ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Experience
Prior experience managing or contributing to a contract lifecycle management system. Knowledge of U.S. insurance regulatory frameworks. Exposure to or experience with international reinsurance agreements is a plus. Seniority level
