Team Description The US Card Data Science team builds industry-leading machine learning models to empower core underwriting decisions in the acquisitions and management of new and existing credit card customers. We collaborate with data engineers, platforms engineers, product managers, credit and business analysts, to deliver solutions from ideation to implementation. We own the full life cycle of our models — development, deployment, monitoring, governance, and ongoing usage expansion and releases. We are a team of creative problem solvers who challenge the status quo and continuously innovate to keep our models more dynamic, robust, and smarter. Role Description In this role, you will: Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver a product customers love Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more — to reveal insights within huge volumes of numeric and textual data Build machine learning models from idea to implementation, including designing experiments, iterating on models, and deploying production-ready solutions that impact business outcomes Translate complex work into tangible business goals through strong interpersonal communication Ideal Candidate

Statistically minded — built, validated, and backtested models; experience with clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning Technical — proficient with open-source languages, experienced in developing and deploying production-ready data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud platforms Customer first — focused on making the right decision for customers A data guru — able to retrieve, combine, and analyze data from various sources and structures; understands that data quality drives data science outcomes Basic Qualifications

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of data analytics experience, or a Master's Degree plus 3 years, or a PhD plus 1 year, with the expectation that the degree will be obtained by start date At least 1 year of experience with open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis At least 1 year of experience with machine learning At least 1 year of experience with relational databases Preferred Qualifications

Master's or PhD in a STEM field with relevant analytics experience At least 1 year of experience working with AWS At least 3 years of experience with Python, Scala, or R for large-scale data analysis At least 3 years of experience with machine learning At least 3 years of experience with SQL Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated.

Locations and pay ranges:

Chicago, IL: $144,200 - $164,600 for Principal Associate, Data Science; McLean, VA: $158,600 - $181,000 for Principal Associate, Data Science. Other locations follow local pay ranges; actual offer depends on location. This role may be eligible to participate in incentive compensation programs.
