Chemist

Department:

QC Lab Location: Salt Lake City, UT

The Chemist will perform routine operations analytical instrumentation (HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS/MS, GC, UV-Vis, FT-IR, DMA, ICP-MS, Protein Analyzer), maintenance and instrument verification, keeping proper records as required by the applicable regulations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with established regulations and customer requirements, including GMPs as listed in 21 CFR 111 and 117, and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) scheme; Daily practices with instrumentation, including: Agilent FTIR, HP 1100, Waters UPLC and AB LC-MS/MS, Elmentar Protein Analyzer, Milestone DMA, PE ICP-MS and other wet chemistry testing as required, including necessary maintenance and troubleshooting; Develop and validate analytical methods for novel ingredients / finished products when needed; Provide feedback to production on in-process testing results and necessary changes that need to be made to their procedures; Work closely with R&D as well as production to support new product development; Review all lab analytical data, COAs, specifications, and OOS report assuring their accuracy; Manage day-to-day operations of the lab, safeguarding personnel, company property, equipment and sit securely; Develop, approve and implement laboratory policies and procedures as required; Follow cGMP guidelines and processes as established in department SOPs; Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment; Perform other duties as deemed necessary. Requirements and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Science related field; Knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry fundamentals; Strong functional and technical skills, strong analytical instrumentation background in quality control and in a production environment; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong documentation and report writing and oral communication skills; Good organizational skills and great attention to detail; Detail oriented and highly organized; Working knowledge of LIMS, Microsoft office and general computer concepts; Intermediate math, communication, and problem solving skills; Ability to follow company processes and procedures; Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to work in a laboratory environment; Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.; Ability to wear any required PPE; Ability to work around a variation of different smells and aromas; Other physical requirements include occasional squatting, bending, twisting, and bi-lateral hand and wrist movement; Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
