Overview
Zurich is seeking a Property Underwriter (Level II or Senior III) for our National Accounts Property Underwriting team in our Chicago office. We will also consider basing the role at one of our Midwest/Great Lakes regional offices: Edina, MN; Kansas City, MO; Pittsburgh, PA; Cleveland, OH. The position will be based out of a Midwest or Great Lakes regional office with a hybrid work arrangement. You will work with your manager to set a flexible schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role requires you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week. This role will be filled at either Property Underwriter II (Level II) or Senior Property Underwriter (Level III). The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position. As Property Underwriter (Level II or Senior Level III) you will have an opportunity to apply marketing and analytical skills. Specifically, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, under general direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity, ensuring a high level of service to customers. This is a market-facing position, so we are seeking someone with a strong sales execution mindset and knowledge of commercial property policies. Key accountabilities include: Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations. Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs, as appropriate. Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition and work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions. Support the organization’s sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities. Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities. Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity. Make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose. Qualifications
Property Underwriter (Level II) : High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area; OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area; OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area; OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area; AND Knowledge of lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience with Microsoft Office Senior Property Underwriter (Level III) : High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting or brokerage or market facing area; OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area; OR Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area; OR Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area Knowledge of Microsoft Office Experience working with time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience working in a team environment Preferred Qualifications – Level II & Level III : Technical knowledge of commercial Property Underwriting Established broker relationships (Retail, select brokers) in Midwest – Great Lakes Regions Strong verbal and written communication skills Compensation and Benefits
At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including office location, role, skill set, and experience. Zurich commits to providing a fair and reasonable compensation range for each role, and eligible dependents may receive a comprehensive benefits package. Candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range will be considered based on experience, skills, and education. The compensation shown represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials. The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $165,000.00. For Level II: $75,000.00 - $125,000.00 with 10% short-term incentive; For Senior III: $98,500.00 - $165,000.00 with 15% short-term incentive.
