The Post Award Director oversees a team of 6–8 Grants Specialists who support internal stakeholders and the Sponsored Programs Office in the fiscal, administrative, and regulatory management of grants, contracts, and sponsored programs from award receipt through closeout. This role manages a portfolio-based team supporting both basic and clinical research projects, aligning team efforts with investigator needs. As a working leader, the Director provides high-level post-award support for assigned investigators, steps in to resolve complex issues, and serves as a liaison with collaborating institutions, sponsoring agencies, principal investigators (PIs), and department leadership. The Director also provides training and oversight to ensure efficiency and consistency across post-award activities and serves as back-up to the SPRA Senior Director for Post Award activity. The successful candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong prioritization, independent judgment, and attention to detail, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Additional duties may be assigned based on departmental and system needs. Duties and Responsibilities: Research Administration Management (40%) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of funding agency guidelines and research administration systems (e.g., Grants.gov, Research.gov, eRA Commons). Review and monitor compliance with policies and procedures for purchasing, travel, P-card transactions, contracts, and subscriptions. Provide spending reports, financial analyses, and account projections to principal investigators (PIs). Notify PIs and administrators of overspending risks or large unspent balances near award end dates. Review awards to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor regulations and advise PIs and staff as needed. Coordinate re-budgeting requests and provide additional post-award services upon request. Reconcile accounts, process journal entries, cost transfers, and salary reallocations, and finalize sponsor reports (progress and closeouts). Research Program and Operations Management (30%) Manage administrative activities for research and sponsored programs, including HR and payroll coordination. Partner with Grants Specialists and Accounting to coordinate billing and salary allocations. Monitor payroll and effort, ensure fund availability, and notify PIs of necessary adjustments. Apply thorough knowledge of federal, sponsor, and institutional regulations to award management. Maintain clear written and verbal communication with sponsors, administrators, PIs, and staff. Collaborate with SPRA leadership to address complex issues such as cost share and institutional support. Team Leadership and Development (30%) Hire, train, mentor, and supervise Grants Specialists, providing direction and performance feedback. Delegate assignments effectively, triage time-sensitive work, and set clear priorities. Onboard new staff and ensure appropriate access to research administration systems. Organize training curricula and provide instruction on institutional procedures and sponsor requirements. Keep staff current on changes in policies and regulations affecting sponsored programs. Develop competencies, performance measures, and professional development recommendations for staff. Assess team performance, advise the Senior Director, and implement improvements as needed. Plan, assign, and monitor work to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and timely completion of responsibilities. Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and system goals. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred. Minimum 1 to 3 years related grant and administrative experience, preferably in an academic environment, or equivalent combination of education/experience. Care New England Health System (CNE)
