The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal as required.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
- Place samples in appropriate containers and tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with straight needle technique.
- Verifiable experience drawing blood from all age groups including geriatrics and pediatrics.
Work Environment
The position requires full-time work during one shift. The dress code is solid color scrubs with closed-toed leather shoes, no mesh.

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $20.00/hr.
