Overview
The Resident Advisor at Covenant House New Orleans is responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for young residents. This role is integral to guiding and mentoring youth as they navigate personal challenges and work towards achieving their life goals. The Resident Advisor will serve as a role model, advocate, and liaison, ensuring that the needs of the residents are met while promoting a sense of community and belonging within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and support to residents, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Develop and implement individual action plans for residents, focusing on personal development, education, and career goals.
- Facilitate group activities and workshops aimed at enhancing life skills, social skills, and emotional intelligence.
- Actively monitor and address any behavioral issues, employing conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques as needed.
- Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate comprehensive care plans that address the physical, emotional, and educational needs of residents.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of resident progress, incidents, and activities, adhering to confidentiality and privacy standards.
- Serve as a liaison between residents and external service providers, including educational institutions, healthcare professionals, and social services.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions to ensure continuous professional development and alignment with organizational goals.
- Uphold and enforce Covenant House policies and procedures, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment for all residents.
- Engage in community outreach and advocacy efforts to promote awareness and support for Covenant House initiatives.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field is preferred.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth, preferably in a residential setting or in a role that involves direct care and support.
- Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in a non-profit organization or social services environment is an advantage.
