Patient Care Assistant/MA - Phlebotomy (2025-1140)

Job overview: A Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR).

Location: VMC Main Campus, 6 South (Cardiac/Telemetry); Shift: Days; Type: FTE 0.9; City/State: Renton, WA; Salary Range: Min $24.71 - Max $39.31/hr DOE

Reports to: Nurse Manager/Asst. Nurse Manager

Prerequisites

  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • AHA BLS for healthcare providers
  • One (1) Year Patient Care Experience, Preferred
  • MA - Phlebotomy certification, required (or must obtain within 90 days of hire)

  • Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional development of all age groups

Performance Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates applied knowledge in department standards and patient care resources
  • Reports significant signs and symptoms to the Registered Nurse (RN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR) as directed
  • Observes changes in patient condition (e.g., level of consciousness, mobility, breathing, skin color, pain, wound drainage, output)
  • Ensures patient care equipment is safe and functional
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies (cardiac/pulmonary arrest, psychiatric emergencies, postpartum hemorrhage, newborn emergencies as applicable)
  • Demonstrates understanding of developmental/behavioral characteristics of all ages served (neonate, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric)

MA - Phlebotomy - Additional Duties

  • Performs phlebotomy as requested according to correct procedure
  • Maintains biannual phlebotomy certification
  • Performs chem strip procedures according to procedure
