Starting Pay Range: $16.33 - $19.21 an hour

Job Summary
Answer and direct telephone calls, schedule appointments, process paperwork for daily clinic operations, collect patient payments, assist and direct all contacts, provide excellent customer service, enter, verify and maintain patient billing information, and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities
- Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
- Provide Patient Information Form (PIF) for patients who present with changes in demographic information or for patients who are new to the Center; enter new patients into the practice management system and process necessary paperwork such as fee slips, schedules, reports, etc.
- Process patients through check-in for daily appointments.
- Update and maintain accurate billing information including payer information and patient demographics.
- Accurately schedule all necessary appointments.
- Assist patients and visitors in obtaining assistance throughout the Center.
- Obtain insurance cards (CICP, Medicaid and Medicare) and scan cards into the system; enter insurance information as necessary.
- Verify eligibility of patient insurance prior to scheduled appointments.
- Discuss insurance payor discrepancies with patients and instruct on resolution to ensure accurate billing information for visits.
- Collect co-pays and appropriate patient deposits, as well as past due balances, when possible.
- Maintain cash box and process credit card transactions; balance money collected with what is posted in the system.
- Work with Patient Accounts to maintain information, research problems, and resolve active account balances as assigned by Supervisor.
- Assist patients with billing questions.
- Open and close clinic reception daily; provide substitute coverage at all sites and during holidays/extended hours as needed.
- Uphold all Fiscal/Accounting policies and procedures regarding billing and collections.
- Perform general office duties such as recordkeeping, filing, copying, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, required
- A minimum of one year experience in a medical office preferred
- Current BLS with skills demonstration CPR certification, REQUIRED for 1st Day
- Experience in appointment scheduling
- Experience in data entry helpful
- Experience in insurance billing helpful
- Required Travel: Infrequent travel may include limited local travel
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Good typing skills and computer working knowledge; knowledge of ten-key; ability to use routine office equipment.
- Ability to count money, make change, and reconcile daily collections.
- Excellent public relations skills; ability to work in a multi-tasked environment.
- Conversational Spanish preferred (may be required depending on department needs).
- Ability to understand verbal information, communicate clearly, and compose written information.
- Ability to memorize and reason mathematically; analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9-CM coding; knowledge of insurance billing helpful.
