Job Duties:
Operate the following heavy equipment, as needed:
- Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted)
- Backhoes
- Front end loaders
- Bucket/ladder trucks
- Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 lbs but <40,000 lbs)
- Dozers (<140 HP)
- Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump)
- Gradalls
- Hot mix pavers (<40 HP)
- Motor Grader
- Lowboys
- Milling machines (<90 HP)
- Road planer
- Road widener (<90 HP)
- Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted)
- Striping machines
- Sweepers
- Track hoes (excavators)
- Under bridge inspection units (trailer mount)
Additional Tasks:
- Performs a wide variety of tasks such as cutting trees, loading and unloading materials, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools, and performing incidental repair and construction tasks (e.g., installation of guardrail, fencing, pipe, catch basins, and drainage structures). May train and/or assist in training lower level operators or laborers. Assists Roadside Development Herbicide Applicator by unloading/loading material or equipment. Removes litter and debris from state maintained highways and interstate systems and assists with landscape maintenance projects.
- Before operating equipment, conducts routine visual/physical safety inspections and reports problems; performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment per operator’s manual. Prepares necessary paperwork (e.g., mileage, fuel usage) as directed.

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Work Schedule: Hours to be determined. Monday-Friday.
Compensation:
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1: Class D, Chauffeurs License required upon appointment. Starting salary is $16.06/hour; this title receives $1.00/hour premium pay for all hours worked and a 10% base pay increase upon permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2: Class A, CDL required upon appointment. Starting salary is $17.18/hour; this title receives $1.00/hour premium pay for all hours worked and a 10% base pay increase upon permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY: Class A, CDL required upon appointment. Starting salary is $21.05/hour.
