The Campaign Against Hunger is hiring: Custodian in New York

Position Summary: The Custodian will keep office and public facilities clean and in good condition, Custodial duties and responsibilities include general cleaning and maintenance, event setup and clean up, and restocking supplies. The ideal candidate will work both indoors and outdoors to maintain the upkeep of all TCAH locations. The candidate will also work to assist in our pantry.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them
• Clean windows, mirrors and chair mats
• Clean and supply restrooms
• Remove waste and empty trash
• Maintain cleaning chart indicating areas that were cleaned and inspected
• Replenish cleaning supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
• Organize janitorial storage areas
• Notify supervisors about unsafe conditions or concerning the need for repairs or maintenance
• Launder TCAH aprons
• Restock pantry shelves checking products for quality and freshness.
• Able to work outdoors in changing work environments including extreme temperature conditions.
• Able to stand for long periods
• Maintains workplace safety standards
• Other tasks as given by the Custodian Manager/Program Director/ Executive Director

Personal and Professional Characteristics:

• Passionate about the organizational mission to eliminate hunger and advance food justice
• 1 year of janitorial experience
• A self-starter with the ability to work as a team player and foster cooperative work
• Ability to create, develop and maintain relationships with participants, partner agencies and other staff
• Proactive, flexible and takes initiative independently
• Good oral communication skills required
