SPORTS COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: Youth & Family Program Director
Employment Status: Part-time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director, the Sports Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of high quality sports programs designed to meet the needs of the community. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides direct leadership and supervision to branch sports programs. This includes: supervising evening sports league practices and supervising, coaching (as needed), and refereeing (as needed) Saturday sports league games.
- Instructs preschool, school-age, and teen sports classes and clinics year-round.
- Helps identify and develop new programs to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Assists the Youth & Family Director with hiring and training part-time employees as needed to deliver sports programs.
- Recruits and trains volunteer coaches as needed to deliver sports programs.
- Operates all branch sports programs to meet annual budget for the department. All expenditures must be approved by the Youth & Family Director, as this role is not responsible for budgeting or forecasting.
- Delivers high quality sports programs that meet all association guidelines related to quality and safety.
- Communicates effectively with branch staff, program participants and families to ensure programs operate smoothly and efficiently.
- Collaborates with branch leadership, develop and expand relationships with schools, community organizations and other community leaders to facilitate program development.
- Assists with the promotion of sports programming including: creation of flyers, calling past participants, calling new members, distribution of flyers throughout community etc. Works with branch leadership staff on other promotional opportunities including social media and website.
- Handles customer concerns, voicemail and email related to sports in a timely and respectful manner.
- Ensures the environment, equipment and supplies are adequate and safe for conducting programs.
- Participates in branch Annual Campaign and other special events as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school degree or its equivalent is required.
- Prior experience working in a recreational setting is preferred.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred but not required.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
