Job Overview
Drives and operates a dump truck (up to 150 tons) equipped with a dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel and stone.
Responsibilities
- Drive and operate truck to transport and dump
- Pull lever or turn cranks to tilt body and dump contents
- Move hand and foot controls to move the truck forward or back to loosen and dump material adhering to the body of the truck
- Operate other mechanical equipment to load the truck
- Maintain and check equipment—mechanic and hydraulic systems
- Prepare operational checklists and report malfunctions requiring repair
- Perform safety walk-around inspections before shift
- Fuel and clean the truck cab
- Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed
- Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times
- Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
- Meet or exceed company safety standards
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Prior experience required with similar or same equipment or truck
- Be able to read, write, and speak English
- High school diploma preferred
- Bilingual a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions and deal with simple problems from standardized situations
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition and subtraction, two-digit numbers and units of measurements
- Ability to read English sufficiently to read all sentences
- Basic English language skills to recognize words and differences between words
- Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctioning and respond accordingly
- Ability to operate equipment in reverse using mirrors
- Basic mechanical knowledge to detect potential breakdown of equipment
- High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to operate truck safely in heavy traffic areas
Working and Physical Conditions
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
- Must wear protective equipment while at the location
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, climbing to a significant degree, and/or pulling of controls
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
