About The Position Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Surgical Services Specialty: Sterile Processing Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Mid Hours per Shift: 8 hours (15:00 - 23:00) Experience: 5 years License: Valid state license required Certifications: CBSPD or IAHCSMM/HSPA (either certification accepted) Must-Have: 5 years of experience in sterile processing Description: The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper decontamination, preparation, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. The technician must possess skills in acute hospital settings, specifically in operating rooms. Proficiency in decontamination and disinfection using chemical agents, disinfectants, and manual cleaning procedures is required. Experience with high-level disinfection and the use of sterilizers and washers is essential. Skills in aseptic technique, case cart organization, instrument placement on trays, and proper labeling are also necessary. The role involves processing various specialty equipment such as bariatric, cardiac, dental, ENT, general, laparoscopic, neuro, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, orthopedic, plastics, podiatry, robotics, transplant, urology, and vascular instruments. Knowledge of sterilization practices, including biological and chemical indicators, steam sterilization testing, and monitoring procedures, is required. Previous experience in scope and probe reprocessing is essential for this role. Technicians must be committed to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in the sterile processing department. Additionally, the job may involve interacting with patients, including those with COVID-19. Team collaboration and interdisciplinary support are vital for effective patient care.
