About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent experience within the past 6 months License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Must be able to read dysrhythmias. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start with a maximum of 2 attempts, within 48 hours of the offer. There is a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. Study guides will be provided with first day instructions. Description: Unit Notes: Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit with 30 beds. Ratios are 1:4 for both days and nights. Charge Nurse does not take patients and a Unit Supervisor is also present. Nurse Aides are available on days. One PCT or SWAT RN is available at night to assist with tasks. Weekend requirement includes 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week period. One major and one minor holiday are required. Scrub color is navy. Equipment includes GE Monitors with a central monitoring station tech to read. Vents such as CPAP may be possible. Health coverage includes a hospitalist or intensivist in-house. An IV Team is not present, but a house SWAT Nurse is available for hard IV sticks. Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, from 7 PM to 7 AM. Floating may occur to other units as needed. Floor-specific orientation will be provided over two shifts. Common diagnoses and types of patients include general and orthopedic trauma stepdown patients. Patients may require chest tubes, drains, and wound vacs. Amiodarone and Cardizem may be titrated down. Peritoneal dialysis patients on the floor are handled by contract dialysis services. 1:1 PCT sitters may be utilized for confused patients. Soft restraints are used for line pulling if necessary. Communication is facilitated through spectralink phones with call lights attached. Cancellation policy allows for shifts to be canceled up to 4 times during the assignment. Charting is done using the Cerner system. This position is ideal for those looking for opportunities in an acute care setting.
