About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP Must-Have: - Ability to circulate in the operating room - Competency in normal newborn assessments and routine baby care - Willingness to float to Postpartum and provide care for infants and mothers Description: This position is for a registered nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The unit has a total of 16 labor rooms and 9 antepartum rooms. There are 3 operating room suites designated for C-sections. The triage unit accommodates 7 beds for assessing patients who are greater than 20 weeks with pregnancy complaints. The Postpartum area includes 36 beds. The unit experiences up to 400 births per month. The nurse-to-patient ratios followed are 1:1-2 for labors and 1:2-3 for antepartum patients. Common patient diagnoses include high-risk obstetrics and routine obstetric care. Registered nurses are required to titrate IV drips, including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications. A charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment. Two obstetrical technologists assist per shift. Obstetricians and neonatologists are in-house 24/7 with supporting staff. Anesthesia is available in-house at all times. Respiratory therapy equipment is available for basic troubleshooting. Telemonitor techs are present, but nurses are required to read their own strips. The electronic fetal monitoring system used is Obix. Shifts run from 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700. Weekend requirements are every third weekend, with potential for up to every other weekend based on unit needs. Holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday. Floating to other departments, such as Postpartum and occasionally serving as a sitter, is expected. Scrubs are provided for this role. Unit-specific orientation lasts 2-3 shifts.
