The Neuro-Surgical ICU, a 17-bed adult inpatient unit, specializes in caring for critically ill neuro-science and neuro-surgical patients, including those with stroke, head and spinal cord injuries, and brain hemorrhages. Our nursing team provides specialized care that includes monitoring intracranial pressures, brain tissue oxygenation, and hemodynamic stability. We emphasize a family-centered approach due to the serious nature of our patients' conditions and collaborate closely with our neuro-intensivists, Physician Assistants, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to ensure the highest quality of care. Job Summary The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for supervising patient care, clinical staff, and overall unit operations. This role ensures high-quality, cost-effective, patient- and family-centered care in alignment with the hospital's strategic goals. Additionally, the Assistant Nurse Manager oversees daily departmental operations, including off-shift and weekend staff supervision, resource management, quality improvement initiatives, payroll, and colleague scheduling. Ensuring patient throughput is essential for efficient clinical operations. Working as a staff RN when needed, this position also maintains a safe and therapeutic unit environment. This role supports leadership in fostering standards of excellence and encouraging professional development. Participation in and potential leadership of Performance Improvement initiatives within the department is expected. Qualifications Current Connecticut RN License. Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN required; MSN preferred). BLS certification by the American Heart Association, ACLS certification, and proof of Arrhythmia Certification required by the hire date. Minimum of 2 years of Acute Care RN experience required, with 1 year of supervisory experience preferred. We are committed to nurturing careers.
