Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for an Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at the North Austin location (12221 Renfert Way Suite 300, Austin, Texas 78758). This is a full-time position (Monday – Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm) with no weekends, call, or major holidays. This position can be Level 1, Level 2, or Senior based on candidate experience.

What does the Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) do?

Under minimal supervision, the RN provides professional nursing care for patients following national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. The nurse demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age-specific differences in the patient population (late adolescence through the elderly). The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient and family needs and supports adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care in accordance with established standards and practices.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional materials.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
    • Administer medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
    • Obtain pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms prior to therapy where applicable.
    • Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient, labs, protocol, or treatment plan; calculate dose and consult the physician for dosage adjustments and symptom management.
  • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central lines/catheter devices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments provided.
  • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) will have the following background and experience:

  • Level 1:
    • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
    • RN license and current registration in practicing state.
    • 0–3 years nursing experience.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Prior oncology RN experience strongly preferred.
    • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification strongly preferred.
  • Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements): 3–5 years nursing experience.
  • Level Sr (in addition to Levels 1–2): 5 years nursing experience.

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye–hand coordination. Prolonged standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
