Senior Software Engineer (Build Tools and Automation)

at Inversion, you will have an instrumental impact on the functionality and performance of our next-generation reentry vehicles. You will own key internal software development workflows and assist with the development and deployment of internal tools and critical services. Your impact will also include the selection, definition, creation, configuration, administration, and training of the DevOps processes involving multiple teams. The result of this essential flow will be the demonstration of flight software applications: executing on the world’s first reentry vehicle designed for turning space into a transportation layer for Earth. Key Responsibilities This role is all-encompassing, and includes the complete lifecycle of the vehicle’s software including: Maintain the build tooling for our projects Develop and own the group’s DevOps procedures Assist in integrating tests, including HITL (hardware in the loop) and HOOTL/SITL (software in the loop) testing, integration testing, and unit testing Assist with the growth and development of the software organization, including conducting interviews and mentoring/onboarding other engineers and interns Required Qualifications: 3-8 years of professional DevOps experience with specialization around build tools and automating engineering workflows Experience working in a modern build system, such as Bazel, CMake, Buck, etc. Strong scripting and tooling skills: Python, Bash, etc. Knowledge of Agile principles including planning/backlog tools (e.g., JIRA) Direct experience standing up new CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Git, Gitlab, Bamboo, Jenkins, etc. An innovative and optimistic approach to your work in a dynamic and uncertain environment! Position may require occasional extended work hours and/or weekend work Our office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA, and this position requires you to work onsite Desired Qualifications: Understanding the details of compilers for systems programming languages, such as C/C++ and Rust. Experience with common DevOps tools such as Ansible, Terraform/Open Tofu, AWS.
