The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is responsible for designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory. We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and lead design efforts for crucial parts of our iron-air battery integrated structures. You'll bring components and assemblies from concept to into mass production, with a strong emphasis on structural design, weatherproofing, and manufacturability of metal enclosures. What you'll do: Create white-page designs that will be the foundation of Form Energy’s Gen 2 product designs Perform hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated prototypes Work with consulting companies, vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production Perform bench testing, hand calculations, and FEA to inform specs and future design direction Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc) Drive verification testing of your design work Perform failure root cause analysis on systems and assemblies Travel up to 20% to other Form Energy offices or vendor sites What you'll bring: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 5+ years industry experience in mechanical design Experience leading design work for complex mechanical systems and structural design, using FEA for structural analysis Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting using GD&T (ASME Y14.5) Proficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially sheet metal, stampings, weldments and extruded components Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment Familiarity with mechanical verification testing Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, power electronics, or batteries is a plus Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy’s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that.
