Program Director of Musical Theatre

Position Summary: Interlochen Center for the Arts is searching for a dynamic and experienced Musical Theatre professional to guide a vital and ever-growing program. The Program Director of Musical Theatre is a year-round position focused on both the Interlochen Arts Camp summer program and Interlochen Arts Academy boarding high school. The ideal candidate will be a director/choreographer with administrative experience who can also teach an impactful Acting Technique class to developing young artists. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Guides all aspects of Musical Theatre program, including curriculum, staffing, admissions, and title selection. Collaborates effectively with Theatre faculty and Interlochen Presents staff. Develops curriculum that adheres to high performance standards. Hires and manages the Musical Theatre faculty (including Collaborative Pianists) for Interlochen Arts Camp. Evaluates auditions from prospective students at both Academy and Camp. Teaches classes at the Academy in Advanced Musical Theatre and Acting Technique. Participates actively in season selection at both Camp and Academy. Directs at least one full production per year (may direct more depending on experience and other considerations). Attends and engages in weekly departmental meetings. Prepares students for the rigors of the college audition process. Seeks the best use of materials and equipment to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Complies with institutional policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of institutional resources. Respects the culture, diversity and rights of all students, their families and the community. Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth. Some travel involved with this position. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Abilities: Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or Musical Theatre required. MFA or MA in Theatre, Musical Theatre, or other appropriate areas preferred. Experience:
Significant professional performance experience and/or directing experience in Musical Theatre required. Teaching experience at the collegiate, university or high school level required. Administrative experience is preferred. Equipment Familiarity:
Experience with Mac laptops and Google Suite preferred. Must be able to work with technology. Certifications, Licenses or Special Training: Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks. Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to mentor artistically talented students. Ability to successfully collaborate with members of a creative team. Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
