Overview The Ambulatory Patient Care Tech will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care delivery team under the direction of the Registered Nurse to perform basic nursing care activities, assist to maintain a safe, clean, stocked patient care setting, assist staff members and help direct patient flow.

Responsibilities

Clinical Activities: Collect data and accurately document information for meaningful use including chief complaint, current medications, allergies, tobacco/smoking history and smoke exposure; accurately obtain vital signs (TPR, BP), height, weight and head circumference; orient the family to the clinic environment and paperwork; screen for pain and report abnormalities; recognize indicators of abuse and neglect and escalate; remain with any child in distress and institute Basic Life Support when necessary; escalate to Registered Nurse or Provider as needed.

Provide basic nursing care (e.g., nourishment, assist patient with ambulating, escort patient at time of discharge).

Equipment and supplies: ensure relevant equipment (scales, stadiometers, vital signs machines, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, oxygen and suction) are in working order; perform repairs or report needs as appropriate.

Specimen collection and testing: collect specimens per policy and/or perform POCT or lab draws as applicable; inform patient/guardian of collection process; offer health resources and brochures as needed.

Documentation: meet Joint Commission/DOH documentation requirements for the clinic area; complete required weekly tasks (e.g., clean sweep tool).

Patient flow and unit efficiency: maintain neat environment; prepare exam rooms; prioritize tasks and communicate delays; obtain equipment and maintain PAR levels; guide families to labs, radiology, cafeteria, etc.; identify children/families with special needs.

Communication: contribute to a positive work environment; greet patients/families, adapt communication to different education levels, and address concerns or complaints with Clinic Manager as needed.

Laboratory competence: perform QC, participate in continuing education, handle specimens, venipuncture and routine tests; monitor equipment and inventory; coordinate specimen transport with appropriate labs.

Self management: follow directions, maintain confidentiality, attend in-services, set personal education goals, complete CHEX and occupational health requirements, maintain BLS certification, and hold required certifications/licensure as applicable.

Organizational accountability: demonstrate teamwork, safety, problem-solving, and continuous improvement; communicate effectively and use resources efficiently.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience: CNA, PCT, or EMT Certification (Required); 1 year experience in an acute health care setting – preferably pediatrics (Preferred)

Job Details

Base pay range: $43,160.00/yr - $85,259.20/yr

Location: Shaw Metro, District of Columbia-Washington

Work Schedule: Mon-Thurs 8:00am-8:30pm; Fri-Sat 8:00am-6:00pm
