The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking an Executive Director of Social Media. This strategic leadership role is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and optimization of digital content across various social media and online platforms for the university and the Chancellor.
The Executive Director will play a lead role in reputation management for the institutional social channels and the Chancellor’s social platforms, ensuring alignment with values, goals, and overall brand image. The role will also involve leading the social media team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, and developing creative organic content to tell the story of a dynamic, diverse, and entrepreneurial university.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and implement a social media strategy for the university’s primary social channels. Develop quantifiable goals for social media channels and conduct ongoing evaluation and analysis. Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy for the Chancellor. Direct social media listening, monitoring, and engagement, and play a lead role in reputation and issues management. Lead campus-wide collaborations and provide hands-on support to faculty and staff on social media opportunities and challenges. Collaborate with the University Relations MarCom team to develop strategy and plan content. Lead, coach, and mentor a team of social media specialists. Coordinate with the news content team to enhance compelling storytelling on social channels. Develop a mobile-first video content strategy and coordinate with key stakeholders to establish a social media content calendar. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communication, or a related field. 7 years of related experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Experience with social media management software and social media-related reputation management experience. Writing, video, photography, and other multimedia news editing skills. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion, and exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications:
