This is an opportunity for a Staff/Senior Level
Airframe Design Engineer
with a strong background in lightweight structures to join an aerospace vendor dedicated to building an
eVTOL
aircraft to advance sustainable air mobility. Tasks and Responsibilities This role requires the candidate to be actively involved in the detailed design of
aerostructures . Lead the development of major structural airframe assemblies from preliminary design through certification and manufacturing ramp up. Apply an in-depth understanding of load paths, design best practices, and
hand calculations
to design robust structural configurations. Apply design for manufacturing concepts to create designs that are cost-effective and easy to fabricate at rate. Work closely with and
mentor
other engineers on the design, stress, and M&P teams. Develop company standards for
composite and metallic part CAD models and drawings . Provide technical guidance on design concepts, balancing
risk vs. cost vs. performance . Support manufacturing to validate and verify that designs meet requirements and specifications. Perform a mix of team collaboration and individual work, including
first principles sizing
and shaping, with a
significant CAD element . Required Skills & Experience 8+ years of experience
with
lightweight structures
(aircraft, spacecraft, or other high-performance vehicles). Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field. A
deep understanding of load paths and laminate design fundamentals . Strong first principles for elegant structure, and experience coming from a Part 23 background designing primary structure are highly valued. Strong CAD skills in
NX (preferred) , Solidworks, Catia or Creo. CPB knowledge could also help in certain areas. Experience with the design of: Large bonded structures . Hand laid prepreg carbon fibre . Machined metal . Experience with the manufacturing of composite parts. Knowledge of
FAA aircraft certification requirements for Part 23 aircraft
(desirable). Preferred & Bonus Qualifications Preferred experience with
composite sandwich construction
and
adhesive paste bonding . Experience with composite laminate definition in
FiberSim
(FiberSim is preferred for those with composites experience). Experience with analyzing and dispositioning product non-conformances. Experience with the design of small passenger aircraft or helicopters. Broad experience across a range of
airframe structures
(fuselage, wing, pylons, empennage). Experience from
Motorsports
or
Commercial Automotive
(especially modern automotive like Rivian) could be relevant. Familiarity with PDM systems. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
