Data Migration Engineer Job Details

Location: Remote Clearance: Active Secret Clearance Responsibilities

Support a large-scale DoD-era data migration initiative, migrating applications and services. Analyze existing application databases across legacy datacenters, identify dependencies and data integrity requirements, and document current-state architectures with target-state recommendations. Architect scalable data solutions within VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments; design datastores aligned with application and compliance requirements; ensure security, availability, and auditability. Plan and execute data migrations from legacy datacenters; leverage automation and repeatable workflows to minimize downtime and risk; validate migrated data for accuracy and performance. Develop operational runbooks and documentation; provide knowledge transfer and training to operations staff; support post-migration stabilization and performance tuning. Required Experience

Strong SQL background; proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) in enterprise-scale environments. Proficiency with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), Microsoft SQL Server (design, deployment, optimization at scale), database design and performance tuning best practices. Demonstrated ability to lead complex data migration projects with minimal downtime. Strong understanding of compliance, security, and audit requirements in enterprise IT. Preferred Experience

Experience with Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra). Familiarity with hardware-based database solutions and hybrid migration strategies. Experience in regulated IT environments (e.g., NIST, DoD, or federal compliance frameworks). Education

Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field (or equivalent years of experience). Certifications
