What You Will Contribute To Altos
The Altos Genomics Hub at the Bay Area Institute (BAI) develops and provides access to state-of-the-art genomics modalities in support of greater BAI and Altos wide R&D initiatives. The Senior Research Associate will broadly support hub activities and report to the BAI Genomics Hub Director. The Senior Research Associate will support the development of innovative genomics workflows, integration of novel genomics pipelines into larger operational networks and working groups, and standardization of genomics pipelines to drive efficiency and impact of R&D efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong motivation and drive to support centralized genomics services. Responsibilities Ownership of NGS project workflows from sample intake, RNA/DNA extraction and QC, NGS library preparation and QC, loading sequencing libraries onto Illumina/Nanopore sequencers, and assessing data quality after sequencing Provide daily operational support for genomics instrumentation and service pipelines Assist with planning future expansions with genomics workflow infrastructure, instrumentation and assay pipelines Develop, optimize, implement, and standardize state-of-the-art genomics pipelines Maintain accurate and detailed digital records including electronic lab notebook entries Broadly support the Genomics Hub operations, including reagent/consumable purchasing, management and maintenance of equipment and instruments Provide excellent communication of current workflows and hub capabilities Interface with genomics team members, BAI researchers, and Scientific Operations team members to identify areas of genomics support and meet project milestones Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field Minimum 5+ years of professional laboratory experience, including direct experience with NGS workflows Must have in-depth, hands-on experience with the NGS library preparation and QC, and an excellent understanding of the underlying biochemistry Strong hands-on experience with other standard Molecular Biology techniques (i.e. nucleic acid extraction and QC, PCR/qPCR, primer design, etc.) Experience with reagent validation, protocol optimization, and troubleshooting Knowledge and hands-on experience with operating and troubleshooting sequencing platforms including MiSeq, NextSeq, and Oxford Nanopore sequencers Hands-on experience with bulk, single-cell, and single-nuclei assays Excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and record-keeping, particularly in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to use technical skills and effective time management to perform work efficiently and meet project timelines Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, with a commitment to transparency and teamwork Preferred Qualifications
Experience and/or familiarity with the application of spatial genomics technologies is a plus. Experience and/or familiarity with histology workflows is a plus. Experience with automation platforms is a plus. Experience working with human or animal tissue samples is a plus. The salary range for
