Principal Network Security Engineer role at
Northern Trust . Reporting to the Director of Network Application Engineering, the Principal Network Security Engineer is a technical expert in networking security. This is a technical, team lead, and hands-on role with a primary focus on design and implementation of network security change, and provides support to the network security operations team for complex troubleshooting as required. You will have experience in high-impact, mission-critical environments where service matters and exceeding expectations is the norm. You have led critical projects and enjoy leading a team working on projects. Key Responsibilities
Define and document Network Security Standards Create Low Level Design documents to meet requirements in the High Level Design Develop detailed Implementation Plans for all engineering activities Procurement activities related to build and delivery of new services (Project) Ensure smooth Transition/Handover to Operations in line with the Operational Acceptance Process Manage Technical Lifecycle for all Network & Communications services Support Architecture in Delivery Roadmap for Network Security Support Architecture in scoping activities for High Level Design Support Architecture in POC activities Maintain relevant skillsets to deliver change and provide a high level of support Provide escalation support to Operations with complex troubleshooting of Major Incidents as required Provide on-call escalation support (rota basis) and work extended hours when required Core Skills & Experience
A minimum of 10+ years of hands-on experience with network security solutions in a global enterprise (5,000–50,000 users) with both data centers and cloud Design engineering experience and building resilient, scalable security solutions, ideally in finance or investment banking Cybersecurity principles, financial services models, regional compliance standards, local regulations, and applicable laws Understanding of risk and compliance and translating these into security solutions Automation and orchestration awareness with scripting against APIs Strong understanding of Layer 2, 3, and 4–7 network and security technologies Experience with testing tools and troubleshooting complex technical problems related to services, networks, and security Technical Skills & Experience
You will have expertise in several of the following areas: NGFW platforms and management tools (e.g., Tufin) Network Access Control in enterprise environments Application Delivery & Load Balancers Public and Private Cloud security Workflow automation Routing and switching WAN Optimization DNS, IPAM and DHCP Desirable additional platforms: Check Point, Fortinet, Tufin Forescout, Cisco ISE F5, Netscaler Infoblox Microsoft Active Directory, CyberArk Azure log analytics Akamai CDN Illumio Zscaler Python Ansible, Terraform Azure and AWS native firewall and load balancing Technical Certification
Check Point CSSE CISSP ITILv3 foundation or higher Zscaler fundamentals certification (advanced preferred) F5 Personal Attributes

$137,400 - $233,600 USD Note:
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
