Job Summary :
The Director of Youth Ministries is the key leader for our middle school and high school ministry who is responsible to carry out the mission and vision of the church with a specific focus on the youth (middle school-high school). The mission of the church is to “Lead people to Jesus Christ and help them become his committed followers.” The key elements for carrying out this mission are a consistent explanation of the Gospel, biblical teaching, training to serve, leading in worship, creating community, discipling students through relationships with the volunteer youth staff, and any other means that connects students to Jesus Christ as his disciples and equips them to participate in His mission.
The Director of Youth Ministries is responsible for leading Hang Time (Wednesday nights), Posse (Thursday nights) Sunday School, and all special events/camps. The Director will train and utilize the volunteer staff and student leaders as much as possible, however the ultimate responsibility for the program remains with the Director.
Specific Responsibilities :
Responsible for Hang Time and Posse, including games, worship, and bible lesson- lead or delegate to volunteer staff as appropriate
Responsible for Sunday School-lead or delegate to volunteer staff as appropriate
Plan and lead special activities such as game nights, outreach events, retreats, and camps
Responsible to proclaim the Gospel and teach the Bible in all meetings as appropriate
Lead, train, and coordinate with the volunteer staff delegating responsibilities as appropriate
Develop a mission/outreach mindset among the students and leaders
Work to connect students with the church beyond youth meetings
Responsible for Youth budget
Maintain Youth Room and all associated equipment
Communicate and coordinate all activities with the church office and calendar
Keep parents and students informed
Relationships :
Reports to Sr. Pastor and works closely with him for the direction and leadership of the Youth Ministry
Ultimately responsible to the Council of Elders for the Youth Ministry and all personal conduct
Leads, encourages, and delegates ministry to the volunteer youth staff and student leaders
Qualifications
Spiritual
Must profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and have been baptized as a believer
Must be a person who loves Jesus and maintains a vibrant private and public life of faith and obedience to Christ. This includes personal bible study and private prayer life. It includes leading their family in the faith. It includes actively serving Christ in the community. Being actively involved in the life of a local church. Living obedient to Christ and biblical standards.
Must meet the Biblical qualifications for an elder as stated in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5
Must live a life of biblical health and stability in the areas of marriage, parenting, financial management, personal fitness/health, neighborly relationships
Theological
Must be in alignment with the Converge Worldwide (Baptist General Conference) statement of faith and doctrines as well as those of Northwest Baptist Church
Gifting/Strengths
Demonstrates leadership skills including an ability to inspire others to follow Jesus Christ
Effectively communicates biblical truth
Understands and relates to Students
Able to work in teams and delegate responsibility
Demonstrates good organizational and administrative skills
Maintains a biblical attitude to authority and conflict.
Demonstrates confidentiality, tact, and good judgment.
Able to present self in a friendly, welcoming manner.
Bi-lingual speaker of English and Spanish- this is not required but would be a great asset for our ministry
The Ideal Candidate
Someone who is sensing a call to pastoral ministry and would like to gain skill and ability while serving in a church. This could be someone who has already begun bible school or seminary or who is considering doing so.
