Available Light is an industry-leading, award-winning, fast-paced experiential lighting design firm specializing in Museum Exhibition, Architecture, and Trade Show Exhibits. This position is in downtown Burbank, CA. The firm pursues lighting design that elevates purpose and meaning while delivering sustainable solutions for high-performance environments.

Associate Designer Job Responsibilities

An Associate Designer has a solid foundation in both the Core and Edge Skills defined below. Associates have opportunities for lead designer and project management work, while continuing to learn and train to step into a Senior Associate role with greater autonomy.

Core Skills

Revit+BIM Collaborate Pro (both critical skills) - AutoCAD

AGi32

Office 365

Willingness to travel

Production of layout drawings, models, etc.

Familiarity with (a plus):

VectorWorks, FileMaker, Adobe Creative Suite, Climate Studio, Enscape, 3ds Max

Daylighting, LEED, and/or WELL certification

Orders, Energy Reports, Submittals, etc. for review with Project Manager

Edge Skills

Developing design options based on aesthetic, performance, and/or budget criteria.

Coordination of design details with clients.

Control system narratives and riser diagrams design.

Develop budget estimates based on design and/or historic project data.

Research light level guidelines, energy codes, and recommended practice documents.

Lighting fixture/system evaluation, selection, and equivalents.

Punch listing

Project time monitoring

Qualifications

An advanced lighting degree (MFA, MA, or MS) or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum 4 years working professionally in Architectural Lighting Design.

Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.

Experience in team management and client relationships from the creative process to administrative tasks like budgets, project reporting, and ongoing revisions.

Dedication to lifelong learning and mentoring entry-level staff.
