Overview
VP, Underwriting - Religious Organizations | Hybrid or Remote Opportunity. The Vice President, Religious Organizations (RO), GuideOne, leads the overall operational strategy, profit and loss, and execution of the RO business unit. This executive role is responsible for all aspects of the RO business success, including the Operating Plan, business development, talent management, product development, and underwriting execution. The role participates as an active member of The Mutual Group underwriting leadership team in significant value creation efforts. Responsibilities
Accountable for the profit and loss of the RO GuideOne underwriting unit, achieving the results in the Operating Plan. Partner closely with The Mutual Group and GuideOne leadership teams to develop an Operating Plan that delivers profitable growth and value creation. Act as a strategic advisor on market landscape, competitive positioning, and opportunities. Manage all direct underwriting resources for the RO business and lead talent development strategy and execution for the team. Define underwriting appetite and standards, ensure effective execution, alignment with underwriting guidelines, and adherence to granted authority. Requires expertise in RO exposures such as abuse, commercial property, and general liability. Collaborate with Quality Assurance to validate underwriting execution, address issues, and support feedback loops on performance and expectations. Direct product strategy and roadmap for the RO business. Ensure products meet market conditions and business objectives. Partner with Product to comply with rules, regulations, and state filing requirements. Identify, attract, and retain opportunities and relationships aligned with profit and growth objectives. Develop and maintain disciplined, productive relationships with key decision makers and communicate the value of doing business with the company. Analyze and report on business performance, market conditions, program results, and risk exposure to The Mutual Group and GuideOne leadership. Stay informed on competitive best practices and market intelligence. Develop, monitor, and maintain the department budget and manage expenditures within approved constraints. Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., CPCU, ARM) preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial underwriting with demonstrated success in portfolio management and strategic initiatives. Proven leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional projects. Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in underwriting tools, automation technologies, and data-driven decision-making. Ability to lead change and drive innovation in underwriting processes and systems. Experience coaching and developing underwriting talent. Deep understanding of commercial underwriting, including niche segments such as Masters and Gaps. Familiarity with product strategy frameworks and segment-driven underwriting; knowledge of AI applications, automation, and authority structures in underwriting. Compensation
$200,000 - $250,000 commensurate with experience, plus bonus eligibility Benefits
