The Director of AI – Process Development Science & Technology (PDS&T) leads AbbVie’s strategic direction for artificial intelligence initiatives across process development, scientific research, and technology functions. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement an AI strategy aligning with PDS&T’s priorities and AbbVie’s business objectives. Identify, evaluate, and collaborate with external partners, technology vendors, and research institutions to strengthen PDS&T’s AI capabilities. Lead cross-functional teams to deliver and scale AI solutions for process development, scientific analysis, manufacturing optimization, and technology innovation. Oversee governance, compliance, and ethical frameworks for AI initiatives, ensuring regulatory standards are met. Monitor emerging AI technologies, methodologies, and best practices relevant to process development, science, and technology management. Serve as the primary point of contact for AI-related projects and external collaborations within PDS&T, ensuring alignment and achievement of shared goals. Communicate outcomes, impact, and value of AI-driven initiatives to PDS&T and AbbVie executive leadership. Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making across PDS&T. Qualifications: Advanced degree (MS/PhD) Science, Engineering, Process Development, or related field; business qualifications preferred. 10+ years’ experience in process development, scientific research, manufacturing, or technology functions. Proven track record leading large-scale, cross-functional AI initiatives in life sciences or related industries. Strong collaboration, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Deep business acumen and understanding of process development, scientific operations, and technology strategy. Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholder groups. Preferred Skills: Experience with pharmaceutical process development, scientific research, or technology operations. Understanding of compliance frameworks (e.g., GMP, GxP) and relevant regulations for life sciences. Knowledge of data privacy, ethical AI principles, and risk management in PDS&T. Strategic mindset with ability to anticipate trends and opportunities in AI for process development, science, and technology.
