About The Role The Sr. Network Engineer plays a critical part in expanding and supporting Crown Castle’s IP/MPLS backbone network as well as designing, implementing, and maintaining automation solutions that support our network infrastructure. In this role, you will focus on optimizing network operations and enhancing efficiency in a telecommunications service provider environment. What You Will Do Build and Grow the Network: Design and execute backbone network growth, reconfiguration, upgrade, and optimization projects, including commissioning of hardware. Data analysis and reporting: Collect and analyze network data to generate actionable insights, helping the network engineering team make informed decisions Maintain the network: perform complex network troubleshooting and support. Improve Efficiency: Integrate into our network engineering team to assist in the development of automation tools that align with the organization’s needs in a multi-engineer environment. Configuration development: Work with peer organizations to develop and create configuration standards for new products, services, and devices. Network maintenance: Implement automated maintenance strategies to proactively identify and resolve potential network issues before they impact operations. Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues including: BGP routing policies, control plane interactions with MPLS/RSVP, L2VPN, L3VPN, and EVPN. Network performance optimization: Utilize automation to analyze network performance data and recommend improvements for optimal network operations. Documentation: Document processes and workflows for knowledge sharing and troubleshooting, creation of standardized procedures, and methods of procedures for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Understanding emerging technologies: Keep up to date with the latest advancements in networking and automation technologies to ensure our network and tools remains at the forefront of technology. Education Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related field required Experience Qualifications 7+ years of experience with network technologies and protocols used at layers 2 and 3 including BGP, IS-IS, IPv6, OSPF, OSPFv3, MPLS, RSVP, Traffic Engineering, QinQ, G.8032, Y.1731, VPN technologies including VPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, EVPN Experience managing full lifecycle of network development including establishing requirements, testing/validation, documentation, configuration, standards, and feature enhancements in a multi-vendor and multi-engineer environment Scripting and automation experience using Python, XML, YANG/NETCONF, Ansible, YAML, GitHub/Gitlab and any other scripting languages not already mentioned. Experience developing API’s. Experience in a Service Provider environment using Juniper, Nokia, and Cisco routing hardware, including making network changes at scale. UNIX/Linux system experience Scripting and automation experience using Python, XML, YANG/NETCONF, Ansible, YAML, GitHub/Gitlab preferred Where You Will Work Hybrid: This role falls into our hybrid work model, which is 2-days work from home (Monday and Friday) and 3-days in the office (Tuesday through Thursday) to optimize collaboration, relationship building and key stakeholder engagement and may require some travel as needed. All offices provide free beverages and snacks. Compensation The salary range offered for this position is $118,000 - $162,300 annually. A candidate's offer is determined by various factors including but not limited to, depth of experience, role-related knowledge and skills, relevant education or training, internal alignment, and work location.
