Job Description

As a Lead AI/ML Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and scaling of AI systems for health applications at Optum. These systems will solve problems focused on improving patient engagement, predicting progression of disease, and optimizing clinical trials using both structured and unstructured (text) data. Primary Responsibilities Own the inference and delivery of machine learning insights to multiple customers Manage, monitor, and scale machine learning systems, delivering insights to multiple customers Own model and data orchestration Drive pipeline efficiency and reliability through profiling, refactoring and advanced engineering Work with the broader technical team to scope engineering milestones, provide updates, and communicate challenges Develop new data pipelines to improve ML model usage Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in computer science or related quantitative field 5+ years of experience with software engineering and software development life cycle (SDLC) 3+ years of experience with PySpark or SQL 3+ years of experience with cloud environments and cloud-based batch model deployments using Python in at least one of Azure, AWS, Google Cloud 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tools to ship production code Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD in computer science or related quantitative field Expertise in ML Ops, for example, model monitoring, drift detection, and event-based model retraining Experience with Databricks, AzureML, and Snowflake or related technologies UnitedHealth Group is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer under applicable law and qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, national origin, religion, age, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by local, state, or federal laws, rules, or regulations.
