PURPOSE Under the general supervision of the VP, University Advancement, the Director of Alumni Relations leads and directs all engagement with CSUMB alumni. This includes developing a comprehensive annual plan, coordinating with college and unit partners, developing and executing special events, developing and coordinating communications, and leading the Alumni Advisory Board. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include, but are not limited to, the following Alumni Relations: Responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive Alumni Relations annual plan. Hires, trains and supervises the Alumni Relations Specialist and student assistants. Develop and execute all alumni relations outreach including newsletters, e-contacts, social media, networking events and reunions, including RAFT Weekend. Responsible for recruiting, managing, directing and inspiring the Alumni Advisory Board. Serves as the CSUMB campus representative on the CSU Alumni Council. Works with vendors, affinity partners and University partners as needed to engage and improve programs and alumni engagement Capture strategic interactions with alumni in donor database. Communications: Working with Communications, oversees the content, layout and distribution of alumni e-newsletters, invitations, and event flyers. Coordinates a wide range of projects through to completion and is accountable for the results. Will analyze communications tracking data such as open rates, click-through, etc. Working with Communications, maintains the CSUMB alumni website. Miscellaneous: May coordinate the hiring, training and scheduling of student assistants, and direct and monitor work assignments. Other Functions Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrated working knowledge and experience of general practices and programs related to alumni relations; budget policies and procedures. Proven knowledge of and ability to apply fundamental concepts, basic methods and procedures for research and statistical analysis and the ability to apply them. Knowledge and ability to create, execute and/or support, and oversee a comprehensive campus-wide alumni relations program. Required Skills: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Excellent social skills, with large groups as well as with individuals, with the ability to maintain confidentiality. Being detail-oriented, well organized, focused, and goal-oriented, with a high level of initiative and energy, is essential, as well as adept at problem-solving and using judgment in situations requiring independent initiative and tact. Event planning and execution experience. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program, organizational unit, and/or administrative specialty; analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques; organize and plan work and projects including managing multi phase projects from inception to completion; make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment; compile, write, and present reports related to program or administrative specialty; establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit. Proficient in the use of personal computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position, including the knowledge and abilities identified above. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND/OR equivalent training and professional work experience in alumni relations, events, and communication. Three to five years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the job responsibilities. Two years of supervisory and/or management experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three to five years of experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), in alumni relations, event planning and execution, and communications. Experience in using Raiser’s Edge, or similar software; PeopleSoft (primarily), Oracle, or other relational databases; Microsoft Professional Suite-especially PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Google platform (Gmail, calendar and drive). Highly desirable: Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to CSUMB’s Vision.
