The University of New Mexico, Department of Psychiatry, is seeking a full-time staff physician to serve as an MDC Site Psychiatrist. Psychiatrist will provide onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical or/and clinical services staff. Provide written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course. Staff Psychiatrist will report directly to the site Psychiatric Director. Provide onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical or/and clinical services staff. Provide written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course in accordance with national standards and the McClendon Agreement. Provide psychiatric services for inpatients, assessment and diagnosis, staffing treatment planning, and regular review of all inmates assigned. Provide psychiatric services for all inmates referred to Healthcare Unit. Provide psychiatric services for those inmates in the general population who need regular psychiatric/mental health follow up. Provide psychiatric services for those inmates who need to be transferred to Mental Health facilities. Act as regular psychiatrist and participate in the treatment programming and planning for the Mental Health Unit. Provide medication management to all inmates admitted to the Mental Health Unit. Approve all admissions and discharges into the Mental Health Unit. Provide in-service education to the Mental Health Unit staff as needed. Be available on a scheduled basis for the on-call needs of the Mental Health Unit. Participate in Treatment Audit Committee. Attend meetings as directed by or jail administration Requirements
Graduate of an accredited medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency. Fully licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment. Current DEA registration. Preferably board certified or board eligible to practice psychiatry and has administrative experience in corrections medicine. Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirement.
