– Area Medical Director position overview Position purpose: The Area Medical Director provides leadership, mentorship, and management to Petco owned full-service hospitals and partners within the assigned area. They represent the mission and values, create a positive culture, hire and develop staff, drive hospital growth, and deliver performance objectives. They ensure hospitals follow Petco Veterinary Hospital SOPs to provide high-quality medicine and excellent patient care and client service. Responsibilities

Lead and provide management to all hospitals in the assigned area to drive growth and meet performance objectives Develop, mentor, and provide hands-on medical support to hospital veterinarians, hospital medical leaders, and relief doctors as needed Evaluate hospital operations to improve flow and efficiency Act as the primary medical point of contact for Petco owned hospitals in the area; ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and laws Oversee radiation safety, equipment maintenance, and compliance programs Partner with hospital DVMs and leaders to ensure controlled substance compliance Ensure Vetco Total Care hospitals uphold Petco standards, mission, and values Collaborate with operational leadership to manage escalated client concerns, including professional liability submissions Monitor and report veterinarian adherence to medical standards in Petco SOPs Review electronic medical records of direct reports and provide feedback to elevate patient care Review and analyze key metrics to improve veterinarian production Maintain a positive work environment that supports efficiency, profitability, and partner retention Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding with the Talent Acquisition team Support performance management of hospitals with Regional Medical Director and Area Operation Manager; assist in budgeting and meeting financial objectives Frequent travel between area hospital locations; up to 20% overnight travel Other Duties and Responsibilities

Perform additional duties as assigned Hold relevant permits and responsibilities as required by state law and business needs Obtain and support hospitals with DEA registration as required Obtain veterinary licensure in states where hospitals are located Disseminate knowledge to staff to improve patient and client care Education/Experience

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited school Active licensure without contingencies in states where hospitals are located or ability to obtain by start date Current DEA license Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date Valid driver’s license and clean driving record At least 4 years of clinical practice experience Strong knowledge of medical operations, SOP compliance, educational leadership, and medical case discussion facilitation General understanding of business financials Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and conflict resolution skills Ability to travel frequently between regional hospital locations with up to 20% overnight travel Preferences

Previous medical leadership experience in a multi-unit setting Work Environment

The majority of duties are conducted in area veterinary hospitals. The role requires physical activities such as bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and prolonged standing.
