Perform venipuncture, finger sticks, and bleeding times on all patients at BIDMC. Obtain positive patient identification and maintain vein preservation and specimen labeling procedures. Transports routine and STAT specimens to appropriate laboratories. Provide training and orders and maintain supplies. Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external clients. Maintain adequate staffing levels and efficient, effective workflow and scheduling. Provide training to phlebotomists to ensure competency. Provide data input for the payroll system in the absence of Supervisor and Phlebotomy Leaders. Act as a technical resource for all difficult Phlebotomy blood draws for the institution. Ensure rounds are completed as scheduled and provide assistance as needed to maintain timelines of routine and STAT blood draws. Communicate lab issues and problems to Clinical Supervisor/Clinical Manager and recommend resolution. Interact with customers (patients, site office managers, physicians, and medical assistants) on a daily basis. Share on-call duties and provide input for performance appraisals. Ensure 24/7 coverage for Inpatient Rounds. Policy
