Responsibilities

Implements, maintains and provides clinical pharmacist services including: clinical, educational, informational and distributional functions for newborn, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients of The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC).

Typical Physical Demands

Standing, sitting, stooping, bending, walking, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.

Frequent: pushing/pulling usual weight of up to 40 pounds of force, lifting or carrying up to 30 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, frequent gripping of an object.

Continuous: repetitive arm/hand motions.

Occasional: kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, pushing/pulling up to maximum 50 pounds.

Operate pagers, computers, printers, typewriters, telephones, fax machines, dispensers, laminar flow hoods, TPN compounding machines and other pharmaceutical and office equipment.

Typical Working Conditions

Not substantially subject to adverse environmental conditions.

Subjected to noise/vibration from air conditioner, printers, time stamp machines, pneumatic tubes, telephone, etc.

Exposure to body fluids, chemicals, some contact with patients with communicable diseases.

May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.

Work environment is fast paced, congested and may be stressful due to workload.

Interacts with patients, nurses, physicians and the general public.

Works on multiple tasks at the same time.

Minimum Qualifications

A. Education/Certification and Licensure

Current Hawaii State license as a Pharmacist.

Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred.

Post-graduate clinical residency accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists preferred.

B. Experience

Clinical hospital pharmacist experience preferred. Preferably with experience in rounding with a medical team, monitoring of patient drug therapy, pharmacokinetic dosing and patient counseling and education.

Experience in unit dose and IV services preferred.

Ability to communicate professional expertise to all levels of the health care team.
