Phlebotomist Job at University Health System in San Antonio

Responsibilities

• Accurately and rapidly collects blood and body fluid samples from inpatients and outpatients in the proper container, correctly labeling all tubes and promptly delivering blood samples to the laboratory.
• Timely and accurately collects blood specimens from patients, using appropriate aseptic collection methods and the correct collection system.
• Utilizes Laboratory LIS to receive specimens, generate labels and create specimen transfer lists.
• Follows proper infectious/isolation policies.
• Performs duties promptly, safely, efficiently and reliably.
• Cares for and handles specimens, supplies and equipment properly.
• Maintains good guest relations and working relations by following University HealthCustomer Service Standards.

Education / Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required. Knowledge of capillary and venipuncture techniques is preferred.

Licensing / Certification

Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is not required, but recommended.
