Overview
CSCA Café, the sister restaurant to Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, is a new café and bakery known for its pastries, desserts, coffees and teas. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality products, showcasing CSCA’s Professional students and alumni, and creating a community space for customers to enjoy beverages, pastries and retail products.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced baker to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, baking, decorating and finishing a variety of doughs, pastries and specialty desserts. The candidate should demonstrate excellent time management and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Experience with different doughs, batters, mixes, and the lamination process is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparation: Measure and mix ingredients to prepare doughs, batters, creams and frostings according to established recipes
- Baking: Operate ovens and baking equipment to bake products to specifications, adjusting temperatures and times as needed
- Decorating: Create visually appealing desserts with frostings, creams and edible decorations (e.g., chocolate)
- Quality Control: Monitor quality and consistency of baked goods, adjusting recipes or processes as needed
- Inventory Management: Track and manage ingredient and supply inventories, restocking as needed to maintain production levels
- Cleaning and Sanitation: Maintain a clean workspace and adhere to health and safety regulations
- Packaging: Package finished products for sale or distribution, ensuring presentation meets company standards
- Record Keeping: Document ingredient usage, inventory levels and any issues or adjustments during the baking process
Qualifications
- 3+ years of baking/pastry experience preferred
- Pastry/culinary certificate, diploma or degree preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
- Proven baking experience, preferably in a similar role
- Knowledge of baking techniques and equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Physical stamina for long hours and manual tasks
- Ability to work during nighttime hours (evening to early morning)
- Food Safe Handling certification
Compensation
- $24 - $27/hr, commensurate with experience and education
Work Environment
- Retail/restaurant, commercial kitchen environment
Position Type and Hours
- Hourly, part-time position
- Typical shifts are overnight, 3 days a week, plus 1–2 production days with the cafe baking team as needed
- Schedule based on operating hours and business needs
