The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I to perform venipuncture and skin puncture to obtain blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing in a medical or clinical laboratory.
The ideal candidate will have six (6) months of experience at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Laboratory Assistant and a valid certificate to practice as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II issued by the California State Department of Health Services, Laboratory Field Services (CADHS-LFS) Phlebotomy Program.
Key responsibilities include:
- Verifying patient's identification and obtaining blood specimens using venipuncture or skin puncture methodology.
- Assembling testing equipment and preparing blood samples for diagnostic testing.
- Calming and reassuring patients who are anxious or apprehensive about having blood specimens drawn.
- Recording and transcribing laboratory test requests and results.
- Participating in facility, department, and section Quality Assurance/Assessment activities.
