A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Optics Tester 3 at Richardson Gratings, you will partner with engineering and production to measure Diffraction Gratings. In this role, you will report to the Production Supervisor.
You Will Make an Impact By:
- Design, develop, and execute detailed test plans to validate software, hardware, and integrated optical systems.
- Perform both manual and automated testing using industry tools and custom-built solutions.
- Measure diffraction gratings and analyze results using Excel, macros, and data visualization tools.
- Apply critical thinking to troubleshoot issues, align optical systems, and identify root causes.
- Create and maintain clear, detailed technical documentation, test procedures, and reports.
- Partner with engineering teams to understand design requirements and develop unique solutions.
- Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance testing accuracy and productivity.
- Ability to read and understand coding and scripting languages (Python, C, Visual Basic, Matlab, LabView) to automate workflows, improve efficiency, and enhance testing methods preferred.
Required Skills:
- Completion of a 2-year degree in Optics, Physics, Engineering, or related technical field.
- 2+ years of hands-on technical experience in optical testing or related engineering fields.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) with strong data analysis and visualization skills.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
- Strong initiative, curiosity, and creativity in tackling new challenges.
- Experience with LabView, Matlab, coding (Python, C), and Visual Basic macros is preferred.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Manufacturing and lab setting requiring focus and precision.
- Hands-on interaction and troubleshooting with optical, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Extended periods of standing/sitting, manual dexterity, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional low-light work environments and standard factory noise levels.
- Commitment to safe practices while working with electrical, mechanical, and optical equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $25–28/hr (good faith estimate; actual compensation based on qualifications and experience).
