SUMMARY:Assist landscape supervisor in completing daily landscaping tasks as directed, which includes maintaining grounds and property.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate powered equipment such as: lawn mowers, blowers, line trimmers, chain saws, rototillers, hedge trimmers, loppers, pruners, and utility vehicles ("gator")
- Able to be at work and on time as scheduled either written or verbal and Saturday night work as required
- Mow or edge lawns using power mowers and/or edgers
- Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls
- Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes
- Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas
- Gather and remove litter
- Provide proper upkeep of grounds
- At season end return all issued equipment, uniforms and/or tools
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
- Ability to observe safety and security procedures
- Ability to use equipment and materials properly and safely
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts
- Ability to work in high, precarious places and elevated places
- Ability to work in situations where there is darkness or poor lighting
- Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, and 20 feet or more
- Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships
- Ability to use peripheral vision and adjust focus
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent periods of loud noise
- Ability to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
- Ability to climb and/or balance
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk around with it
- Ability to work in temperature and weather extremes from sub-zero to 100+ degrees and snow and rain
- Ability to work 8 -16 hour work days as needed
- Ability to work Saturday or 6 consecutive days without a day off as needed
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
Certificates/Licenses Required
- Valid driver's license preferred but not essential
Language Ability
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
