Collins Aerospace, an RTX Company, is seeking a Hardware Components Engineer to join our multi-disciplined team in Largo, FL or Marlborough, MA location. Mission Systems Engineering leads the mechanical and electrical hardware design, development, and production of DoD and Government Communications Systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in ensuring that all aspects of Parts Control and Standardization are implemented and executed, looking for areas to innovate and optimize processes
- Review datasheets, perform gap analyses, and compare technical characteristics of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components
- Provide recommendations of potential alternate part replacements; tasks include generating piece part documentation of various forms for procurement purposes and submission of required program reports
- Provide Parts Obsolescence and troubleshooting support including investigating and reporting on obsolescence issues, determining potential technical mitigations and maintaining various databases
- Understand detailed mechanical/electrical design layouts and design documentation using Computer Aided Design tools
- Some travel may be required for installation and design verification
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Background in components engineering, including guiding component selection
- Experience creating and peer reviewing procurement control drawings such as Source Control Drawings or Vendor Item Control Drawings
- Broad-based Mechanical / Electrical Hardware engineering background
- Experience with obsolescence reporting and tracking
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Understanding of Tin Whisker Risk, Gold Embrittlement Risk, and experience with Tin Whisker / Gold Embrittlement Mitigation Plans for military applications
- Experience in understanding qualification requirements for military applications, and familiarity of requirements for Hardness Critical Items
- Experience in preparing customer and/or management level briefings
- Experience with program and project tasks, including managing cost and schedule as well as associated reporting
- Experience in development of technical and cost proposals
