Location/Dept: Pathway Forward Program  |  Reports to: Janitorial Supervisor  |  FLSA: Non-Exempt  |  Status: RFT  |  Pay Grade: 402  |  Pay Range: $17.00 - $20.40

OUTCOMES The Janitor maintains Unit 1 as a clean, sanitary, and tidy environment. Responsible for the care and storage of custodial tools, supplies, and equipment. Makes repairs, paints, cleans, and maintains records on the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and orders common areas daily, on the established schedule.
  • Supervises work crews when required.
  • Monitors the premises for fire hazards and immediately reports same.
  • Repairs, refinishes, and paints as directed.
  • Ensures that bulbs light and that washrooms are appropriately stocked.
  • Maintains orderly and secure storage for: resident property; tools, equipment, and parts, janitorial supplies, toxic, hazardous, and flammable materials, resident paper products, and hygiene items; office, program, and holiday supplies, stored furnishings, donated items, and miscellaneous property.
  • Handles linen exchange.
  • Performs special assignments as directed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Reporting relationships

This position reports to the Janitorial Supervisor. In contacts related to this position’s duties, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

Performance measurements

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of performance. A performance review will be conducted.

Education/Experience

  • A high school diploma or a G.E.D. is required.
  • Four years of experience in custodial or janitorial work is required.

Competencies

  • Ability to make minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs.
  • Ability to do quality painting.
  • Ability to move from task to task with little or no supervision.
  • Valid Driver’s license and the ability to pass the Salvation Army MVR check.
  • Supportive of the mission of the Salvation Army.

Position limitations

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Janitorial Supervisor informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
  • The employee is regularly required to use standard janitorial equipment.
  • Employee may be required to drive.
  • The work environment is a residential environment with a low to moderate noise level.
