This position is located in Lake Placid, NY (home of the 1980 Olympics). Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid is looking for an organized and compassionate Unit Clerk to support our residents and staff. We are looking to fill a FULL-TIME position.

Unit Clerk Position Overview

Unit Clerk team members assist with ensuring the health and well-being of residents by providing administrative support. This position is responsible for coordinating proper placement of documents in Medical Records; performing secretarial duties for the assigned unit; assisting with inventory and requisitioning of nursing supplies, forms and stock medications; scheduling various appointments, laboratory, or other diagnostic needs.

Responsibilities

  • Audit Medical Records of residents on the assigned unit for proper order, completeness, and chart maintenance.
  • Close Medical Records following hospitalization or discharge.
  • Perform other medical record procedures under the direction of the Unit Manager.
  • Uphold all rules pertaining to protection, safekeeping and confidentiality of resident information.
  • Assist Medical Records Coordinator with preparation of Admission/Discharge Summary forms.
  • Type organizational lists and perform other secretarial functions for the unit (answering phones, distributing mail).
  • Distribute mail to residents and staff of the unit.
  • Answer call light signals and assist as appropriate.
  • Coordinate preparation of forms and documents for Medical Records, Treatment Books, Resident Care Planning meetings, and MDS assessments.
  • Coordinate obtaining information from all disciplines for Inter-disciplinary Discharge Summary and timely communication.
  • Inventory and requisition supplies for the nursing unit, including nursing treatment supplies and printing of forms.
  • Schedule Podiatry and Dental Consultant appointments and assist with influenza vaccination scheduling, if applicable.
  • Maintain lab report schedule for admissions and routine requirements; schedule lab draws.
  • Assist with obtaining statistics for nursing monthly report and NYS Health Department surveys.
  • Maintain up-to-date listing of physician visits and notify Attending Physicians of due dates.
  • Photograph residents upon admission and place in the Medication Book.
  • Assist with room label preparation for resident rooms.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 16 years of age; HS diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Employment Certificate/Permit required for applicable individuals
  • Office practice skills; basic understanding of medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Attention to detail and accuracy; confidentiality and discretion with resident information
  • Personal qualities of tact, dependability, and a caring, compassionate attitude
